Be sure to read this before buying an Anti Tarnish Jewelry Box.  (You probably don’t need one)…

Using one or two of the ideas in this list can turn your choice of jewelry box into an anti tarnish jewelry box instantly:

1. Tarnish absorbing cloths

Pacific Silver Cloth (Pacific Cloth) or a Silver Tarnish Inhibiting Cloths are very good to wrap jewelry in before storing, or just lay the cloths inside your box with jewelry on top to turn it into an anti tarnish jewelry box. These cloths have minute particles of silver to draw in the sulfur to the material. It will become saturated with the sulfur so you’ll need to change them from time to time but, some versions last up to 40 years depending on the amount of silver in the cloth. Hagerty Silver Strips or 3M Anti-Tarnish Strips soak up the sulfuric gases that cause tarnish. These Anti Tarnish Silver Strips provide a safe economical way to stay tarnish free. They are paper strips containing charcoal which absorbs the gases. You can just lay them inside a drawer or cut them into smaller pieces for compartments or smaller drawers. Jewelry does not need to be laid on them just placed in the drawer with them. These strips last at least six months and you can write a date on them so you know when to replace them. You’ll find them online, at jewelry stores and even hardware stores. A box is approximately $8 – $12 for a packet of eight.

3. Silica Gel granules.

don’t ditch those little packs of silica gels which come in your jewelry box, new purse, camera box, shoes or medicine bottles! These absorb moisture in the air and resist tarnish. Add one to each drawer to help keep the jewelry box interior humidity-free. Absence of air movement can cause a damp environment. This is why the gel packs are in new product packaging when you purchase them. Since we all junk them away and they come with virtually everything these days. You are sure to have quite a few around to use. Store them sealed in Iin a bag and keep them in a dark cool place for later use. This could keep them from absorbing moisture before you need them. Change them every few months. A must in humid climates.

4. Chalk

Even standard blackboard or sidewalk chalk may be used to create an anti tarnish jewelry box. It has amazing absorption qualities and a little piece will work for months to control moisture/humidity.
Follow these simple ideas and rules and you will enjoy your silver and jewels with minimum upkeep for years and still have the jewelry box of your choice, without having to buy a special anti tarnish jewelry box.
